Printmaking at Home is a relaxed, hands-on evening art course introducing a range of printmaking techniques adapted to be created easily at home — no specialist press or expensive equipment required. Designed for women of all abilities, this course focuses on creativity, experimentation and building confidence with simple, accessible processes.

Whether you’re completely new to printmaking or looking to try something different, this class will show you how to transform everyday materials into beautiful, original prints.

What the Class Involves

Over the 6-week course, participants will explore:

Introduction to Home-Friendly Print Techniques

  • Simple relief printing methods using easy-to-carve materials

  • Monoprinting techniques that require minimal tools

  • Creative ways to print using household and natural objects

  • Safe, low-cost methods you can repeat at home

Designing and Creating Your Own Prints

  • Developing simple motifs and patterns

  • Exploring texture, layering and repetition

  • Working with colour and composition

  • Printing onto paper, cards and small creative projects

Building Skills and Confidence

  • Understanding how to prepare surfaces for printing

  • Learning how to achieve clean, bold impressions without a press

  • Troubleshooting common printmaking challenges

  • Gaining the confidence to continue printing independently at home

Creative Exploration and Experimentation

  • Combining printmaking with drawing and mixed media

  • Playing with pattern, negative space and texture

  • Embracing happy accidents and creative discovery

  • Creating a small collection of finished prints to take home

What to Expect

This course is practical, supportive and suitable for beginners. There is no pressure to produce “perfect” results — printmaking is about process, exploration and enjoying the unexpected outcomes along the way.

All materials are provided, and you’ll leave with the knowledge and confidence to continue printmaking at home using affordable, accessible supplies.
